I read "Micka" last September and couldn't put the book down for a moment. It is utterly compelling. With the sharpest of insight and understanding, Frances Kay gets inside the mind of two young boys, one of whom has the most heartbreaking upbringing, the other who makes the wrong choices. It brings the reader very close to the real experience of what it's like to grow up in an unloved, tragic, uncared for home. For this reason, it's a must-read for any adult who works with or cares for children in any capacity......ie everyone! A gripping read.

Colette - your feedback hits the nail on the head and I hope that people working with children will feel this connection. I salute those foster parents, adoptive parents, social workers and children's homes houseparents who give their time and love to kids like Micka. If you would like to register a vote for MICKA, it's just been entered for the PEOPLE'S BOOK PRIZE, which calls for votes from readers. Here's a link: Fiction category: http://www.peoplesbookprize.com/section.php?id=6 Thanks! Frances.
